Beginning tomorrow in Annapolis Royal, Beyond Oqwa’titek, is a series of educational and cultural events that will mark Mi’kmaw and early Scottish contact, and the later arrival of the Gaels.

Taking its inspiration from the Mi’kmaw word meaning ‘when they arrived ‘, we’ll explore our colonial past, reflecting upon the legacy of colonialism, particularly on Indigenous and early European settler communities. We’'ll celebrate the cultural uniqueness and diversity of the peoples who’ve inhabited these lands over time.

Mapannapolis together with Boreas Heritage Consulting presents:

Ancient Stories, New Voices: The Future of a Mi'kmaw Archaeology. A group of Mi'kmaw youth working at Pasi'tuek are uncovering the material culture of their Ancestors. Share their passion for cultural self-refection through a Mi'kmaq Talking Circle followed by a question and answer session.

Sunday from 12 noon to 1:30 at Parks Canada’s Fort Anne National Historic Site.
