Over the Mountain to the Bay Shore

Several hundred million years ago volcanic eruptions along a fault line poured out lava, forming a ridge of basalt which today is the North Mountain Range, usually just called the North Mountain. Over the North Mountain, on the Bay of Fundy shore is the Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail.

With a Triassic basaltic formation over 200 million years old at its core, the North Mountain shelters the Valley from north winds contributing to a micro-climate ideal for farming.

Maintained by Annapolis County, there are two nature trails - Bohaker Trail, a 2.2 km loop (one hour walk), and Charlies Trail, a 1.9 km loop.

Over the North Mountain from Annapolis Royal, you can see across the Bay of Fundy to New Brunswick, 70 kms away. On a clear day, large structures in the port city of Saint John are easy to make out.
