Taking its inspiration from the Mi’kmaw word meaning ‘when they arrived’, Beyond Oqwa’titek was a series of educational and cultural events that marked Mi’kmaw and early Scottish contact, and the later arrival of the Gaels.

This three-day event took place in Annapolis Royal a year ago this weekend.

Ancient Stories, New Voices: The Future of a Mi'kmaw Archaeology. A group of Mi'kmaw youth worked at Pasi'tuek in 2021 uncovering the material culture of their Ancestors. During last year’s event they shared their passion for cultural self-refection through a Mi'kmaq Talking Circle followed by a question and answer session, proudly presented by Mapannapolis and Boreas Heritage Consulting.
