Mapannapolis was privileged to be part of ‘Beyond Oqwa’titek’ in September, 2021, showcasing Mi’kmaw and Scottish/ Gaelic culture.

Oqwa’titek is the Mi’Kmaw word for “When they arrived.”


Marking the 400th anniversary of the Charter of Nova Scotia in the spirit of reconciliation, its a celebration of place and diversity.

On Sunday, the 12th of September at noon at Annapolis Royal’s Fort Anne National Historic Site, Mapannapolis and Boreas Heritage presented:

Ancient Stories, New Voices: The Future of Mi’kmaw Archaeology A group of Mi'kmaw youth working at Pasi'tuek uncovered the material culture of their Ancestors. They shared their passion for cultural self-refection through a Mi’kmaq Talking Circle followed by a spirited question and answer session.
