Didn’t see that coming
From our beginning in 2012, our first five years developing Mapannapolis was a steep learning curve. We had plenty of help from our partners such as the Centre for Geographic Science's instructors, students, and administration. Local press covered our development, and Nova Scotia's Department of Community, Culture and Heritage urged us on, with on-going support. ESRI (Canada) made its proprietary mapping software available, key to the Annapolis Community Mapping Project which became Mapannapolis.ca
Getting the word out and meeting those interested in what we were doing through Information Sessions.
Without County residents making maps, there could never have been a Mapannapolis.
One day in 2017, we learned that we had been selected as one of forty community projects across Canada focussed on history and heritage.
And then:
Anonymous citizens across Canada nominated their local projects, we still have no idea who put our name forward. We sent the story of how we did what we did to the award selection committee.
It was an amazing day when we got this good news.
